Curtis Butterfield, 2010

About

While at work on Monday, November 8th, Curtis Butterfield was injured.  He was alone at the time of the incident, so the exact circumstances are unknown.  However, all signs point to a fall of some sort.  What we do know for sure is he incurred a severe brain injury, skull fracture, and temporal bone fracture.   He was initially brought to Illini Hospital in Silvis then to Genesis in Davenport.  The Neurology specialist there decided to airlift him to Iowa City as he would receive the best care given the circumstances.  He was heavily sedated for the duration of his travels (enough to put a horse to sleep for a week, I've heard).

An emergency craniotomy was performed to alleviate brain swelling, during this time, he was placed on a ventilator and feeding tube.  He ran a fever and was fighting infection for nearly two weeks, but as of November 20th, he has been moved out of the ICU to the neurology unit at the Iowa City University Hospital.

Things are looking up, but he and his family have a long road ahead and will run into many roadblocks (physical, emotional and financial) that will ensure difficulty for the coming years.

It is for these reasons that I decided I would help his family by putting up a quick blog/site to allow family and friends to express their concern or donate in this trying time.
